Something that I’ve learned about in my 18 years of martial arts study of Kung Fu is focus.

Focus is an interesting word – ‘a central point, as of attraction, attention or activity’ is how dictionary.com defines it.

In Kung Fu, the ability of focus is developed by learning long movement sequences then practicing and performing them everyday, much like yoga.

Focus is about bringing our attention to one thing at a moment in time, and in high performance focus could relate to productivity, regulating our emotions in times of stress (mindfulness), communication or learning a new skill.

Often in everyday life we try to concentrate on so many things at once that nothing really gets our full attention and focus. When we multi-task in fact, all we’re really doing is switching tasks frequently, which is terrible for concentration!

Ultimately focus is about becoming more present which helps us become more productive towards our goals and effective in our communication.
